Britain is the first country to begin the democratization process in the modern era and the first country to industrialize. Britain is unique- no country will democratize like britain any time again. Since it was the first, every country that follows is trying to catch up and that impacts the ways they develop. Democratization was relatively peaceful (not so much in the colonies, but in britain itself) While britain"s transition was slow and evolutionary, france"s transition was quite violent, marked by coup de tats, french revolution, monarchs, etc. Calls into question the model established by britain. Yesterday president of brazil was removed from office in bizarre impeachment process- party politics rather than actions while in power. Many say: low gdp"s (poor countries) are less likely to be democracies, but this isn"t always true. Brazil is incredibly wealthy (despite huge wealth gap)
