Document Summary

Efficient causality - how does one thing effect the immediate thing after it. Final causality - the purpose and meaning behind something. Epistemological rationalism - the view that the most certain knowledge of the world is derived from apriori (before experience) reasoning. Metaphysical dualism - the view that there are two distinct substances. Entomological empiricism - all knowledge of the world derives from experience. Metaphysical monism - there is only one substance. The most certain knowledge to descartes is going to be found in his meditations. Descartes says that his understanding is not unlimited as god"s is nor is he as powerful as god but he does have unlimited will. Will is the choice to choose, anyone can choose, but what you can do with that choice has to do with how much power you have. The problem is that our will extends beyond the area of our understanding which is where errors can be made.
