Normal vs abnormal are psychological terms; sane vs insane are legal terms. Abnormal as maladaptive behavior; harmful to well-being, growth, development. Psychodynamic- events that happened in your childhood that unconsciously still affect you. Behavioral- somehow reinforced for your depression i. e. , getting attention every time you are depressed. Cognitive- you are perceiving events in your life in a bad light which causes you to be depressed; perceiving the world in a negative way. Humanistic- did not receive unconditional positive regard so you can work towards self-actualization. Perspective on etiology suggests what treatment might later be proposed. Dsm (diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders)- a classification system that describes the features used to diagnose each recognized mental disorder and indicates how the disorder can be distinguished from other, similar problems. Rdoc(research domain criteria project)- a new initiative that aims to guide the classification and understanding of mental disorders by revealing the basic processes that give rise to them.
