At the beginning of the 20th century, lawmakers debated how new european arrivals would fit into the race spectrum. A vast majority of immigrants were from eastern europe: most immigrants had the worst jobs in america. By 1910, 58% of mining and factory workers were immigrants. Some saw the influx of immigrants as a racial invasion: people sa(cid:449) the i(cid:374)flu(cid:454) as tai(cid:374)ti(cid:374)g the (cid:862)(cid:272)ultu(cid:396)al supe(cid:396)io(cid:396)it(cid:455)(cid:863) of a(cid:373)e(cid:396)i(cid:272)a.
