Document Summary

New world monkeys - ceboidea (monkeys from central and south america) Nasal morphology: flat noses (platyrrhines) with outward pointing nostrils. Diet: fruit, seeds, leaves, gums, insects, etc. Also recently discovered that they eat eggs. Could be considered a quintaped simply because of their grasping tail. Often lives in smaller groups in densely packed forests; they"ve created distinct calls or howls to communicate with each other. Old world monkeys - cercopithecoidea (monkeys from asia and africa) Locomotion: terrestrial quadrupeds, lack a grasping or prehensile tail. Often live in much larger groups for protection; developed large teeth in display to warn others, not for the same reason big cats and other carnivores did. More even length between arms and legs. More generalized molars - 5 y" dentition. Longer arms in relation to their body, shorter legs. Humans, as bipedal apes, are the other way around simply due to environmental and energy pressures. Primarily found in tropical areas of asia.
