Document Summary

Gene: portion of dna that encodes for a specific protein, instructions for producing a trait. Allele: alternative form of a gene that encodes for a particular trait. Locus: the location of a gene on a chromosome. Dominant allele- exerts and expresses its effect whenever present. Recessive allele- is masked if dominant allele is present. Homozygous describes when both alleles are the same. Heterozygous describes when the alleles are different. Seed form: r- smooth seed, r- wrinkled seed. Seed color: y- yellow, y- not yellow (green) Pod form: v-swollen, v- not so swollen. Seed coat color: a- darker, a- lighter. Pod color: g- green, g- not green. True bred: self- pollination, parents and offspring share traits. Cross-pollination: between two different true-bred parents: phenotype, 100% of first generation (f1) have purple flowers (dominant, 75% of second generation (f2) have purple flowers and 25% have white flowers.
