In the grand scheme of thing, the effects of the cj system are huge. What is the cost of the entire cj system: about 212 billion dollars every year. Law enforcement accounts for about 46% of that. How many total people are employed by the cj system: 2. 4 million total, 870,000 sworn law enforcement officers. There are about 18,000 different law enforcement agencies in the united states: compare that to the number in england which is 43. How does this big industry affect it: there are huge differences in communication, quality of training, and accountability within system. Not to mention to hundreds of other things: the biggest result is decentralization. More facts: there are 12, 500 municiple agencies, 3000 county agencies, 50 state police, 1700 special police, 65 feds. What types of thigs does all this fragmentation cause: displacement, duplication, inconsistent services. What types of things would help fix this: consolidation, contracting.
