Document Summary

Interviews are used on people wanting to help the police; interrogations are used on suspects. Interrogations can help prove the suspect is guilty, but they can also prove innocence. You have to be prepared a lot more going into an interrogation than going into an interview. You want interrogations to happen at the police station in an interrogation room. You have to mirandize a suspect when they are in custody (not able to leave) and before you start to ask them about the crime/incident. The supreme court ruled that for a suspect to use his right to remain silent, they must actually tell the police that they are not going to talk to them. There are things you can do and things you cannot do in an interrogation: you can make promises to the suspect during interrogation, but only do so if you have the ability to keep your promise.
