The latent investigation (also known as the follow-up investigation) is that series of research following the preliminary investigation that is conducted by detectives using clearly defined methods that if successful, end with an arrest and/or court conviction. The field report is the documentation coming forward from the preliminary investigation, the total history of the case to the point of the follow-up stages. Clearance is the statistical standard of the ability to close a case with an arrest: homicide has around a 70% clearance rate, but nationally, all crimes have a 20% rate. A righteous case is one that has been made, and that will demand the efforts of detectives. One of the earliest phases of the follow-up investigation is the re-interviewing of witnesses. Crime analysis: the identifying of criminal patterns, trends, and styles where they exist. Latent investigation searches are more accusatory and specific than the crime scene search. Vs. united states: the constitution protects people, not places.
