Serial killers and mass murderers are extremely rare seems like they happen all the time. Relationship b/t media and murder becomes symbiotic exploits our interest in events, killers use media to construct their identity as killers. Glorifying killers adds another reason to a person who thinks they should kill people and become famous. Homicide accounts for about 10% of all crime, and 1. 3% of violent crime. Us has high rate of homicide compared to other industrialized nations. The vast majo(cid:396)ity of people (cid:449)ho (cid:272)o(cid:373)(cid:373)it ho(cid:373)i(cid:272)ide a(cid:396)e(cid:374)"t crazy, or mentally ill, or serial killers. Relaxed gun laws correlate with high homicide rates. The kinds of homicides we fear are the most rare. Homicides are also often accidental did(cid:374)"t (cid:373)ea(cid:374) to kill so(cid:373)eo(cid:374)e, just maim them. Things that can make the difference b/t an assault and a homicide. The victim plays a pretty important role in their own victimization.
