Chpt 1: communication- the process by which two or more people share info, including facts, thoughts, ideas, and feelings. The most basic being to request, reject, and comment. Involves two main players sender and receiver and four processes: sender formulates and then transmits info. Formulation- processes of pulling together one"s thoughts or feelings before sharing them. Transmission- process of conveying those ideas to another person by talking, signing, gesturing, and writing: receiver receives and then comprehends info. Reception- process of receiving info from another. Comprehension- process of making sense of that info: modality- the manner in which info is transmitted and received. A model of communication: three essential components. A sender to formulate and transmit the message. A receiver to receive and comprehend the message. A shared means of communication: feedback-info provided by the receiver to sender. Non-linguistic/extralinguistic feedback- eye contact, facial expressions, posture, proximity. Interactional communication- used to interact and converse with others in a social way.
