PHL-2000 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Adam Sandler
Document Summary
Everyone has been offended at one point in their life. Being offended is inevitable you can"t control it (just a feeling). Taking offense would include trying to change or prevent further offenses. Can do this through a complaint, trying to pass a law, etc. Ergo taking an action and making a choice. Sometimes how it affects others overweighs the action so it is not justifiable to take offense. However, some things are worth taking offense too such as a burning cross in the middle of campus. Stranger spills their drink all over your computer. However if they come and throw it intentionally on your computer, you"re ready for a fight. If it"s an accident, there"s a less wrongdoing. If i set out to offend you, in a certain sense it"s not as bad. In order to intentionally offend you, i have to think about you and consider you. What is likely to get on your nerves? .
