Women fear crime at a higher rate than men even though men are more likely to be victims. Fear of sexual assault results in heightened and generalized fear of crime. Women"s smaller size increases their chances of victimization. Socialization process encourages women to fear strangers at night and reinforces their fear the will not be able to ward off an attack. Every crime has two parts - the act and the intent. Crimes against property - crime that involves theft or destruction of property belonging to someone else. Crimes against persons - involves violence or the threat of violence against another person (what we refer to as violent crimes) The uniformed crime statistics sheet is compiled and reported to and by the fbi. Only includes crimes that are reported to the police, investigated, and reported to the national database. Doesn"t include juvenile crime, elite crimes, or victimless" crime.
