People had to get out to the island by boat. Earliest human occupation from the ice-free corridor date back to 11,000 years ago. In 1927, stone spear points discovered with bones of extinct bison. We do not know why the megafauna die out, but there are many hypotheses. One of them is that humans ran them to extinction.
