Document Summary
Stanley schachter epinephrine experiment: 184 psychology students were told that the experimenters werer testing the effects of vitamin injections on visual skills. After receiving their injections subjects were escorted to a waiting room where they met another subject who was actually a confederate of the experiment. The confederate behaved in one of two ways: either very playful or angry. Drug uninformed and placebo group participants reported feelings of happiness or anger depending on the confederate"s performance. When unclear about emotional states we watch others for clues. Researchers had an attractive woman ask men to complete a survey either while crossing a swaying rope bridge, 230 ft above a river, or on land. Roughly 40% from the roe bridge condition called her back, versus 9% from the ground condition. They had misinterpreted their own fear arousal from the bridge as attraction for the woman. Memory is necessary for a self-concept; we need a sense of continuity.
