PSYC 372 Lecture 1: Psych_372_-_Lecture_1
Document Summary
Development: the unfolding of the human potential in each person"s unique environment (key points: non-random, systematic, sequential) Micro (versus macro) in your body; the biology / genes. There"s a plan, such as we all have two eyes. There"s a plan and each person has an unique environment. Environment includes where we"re conceived, how we are raised, (etc. ) and therein development is affected. Aging can be before we"re conceive: due to the ovaries of the mother having aged (and had teratogens, such as being in a hot- tubs) Normally aging is seen in negative contexts. Adolescence lack of impulse control = negative. Development and aging are both positive and negative. Historically, aging = negative & development = positive connotations. Aging is an umbrella: includes both systematic and non-systematic, random and non-random, positive and negative. From a developmental perspective we (as college students) have stopped growing, although we may gain weight or muscle mass. The biological unfolding of the human potential.
