FMS 100 Lecture Notes - Lecture 9: Robert Downey Jr., Jennifer Lawrence, James Franco
Document Summary
We see stars as models of people we want to be. Films help define the classic definition of certain social statures, such as how to be a man interjecting certain views of masculinity for example. Films also work to dictate how to be a (cid:449)o(cid:373)a(cid:374). (cid:862)traditio(cid:374)al(cid:863) (cid:448)ie(cid:449)s of (cid:449)o(cid:373)e(cid:374) (da(cid:373)sel in distress) have been upheld in films. But some films like terminator 2 and the hunger games display females as leaders rather than followers. In comedies, some gender roles can be less traditional to support the framework of the comedy. Actors like paul rudd and james franco can be examples of this. Typecasting sometimes actors work so much that they are cast because of how they act. For example, jack black is typically considered a comedic actor and as such will not be chosen as a leading man type of actor. Typecasting can include leading man, action star, comedic relief, or love interests.
