In social psychology theories come from past theories that they don"t agree with or want more information regarding. Individuals decide which approach they want to take after reviewing through past procedures. They may think their way can explore the issue more appropriately allowing for more information to become discovered. They go about refining theories by developing a hypothesis from the original theory. Then they critique the theory based on the outcomes of the hypothesis tested. It can be hard to find the variety or specific types of people that you need to study. It can also be difficult to survey a large group of people, especially if you need specific genders, races, ethnicities, relationship views, etc. In a survey, people may feel pressured which can influence their answers drastically. This can lead to the results being misleading. Some advantages are that surveys are relatively easy to implement.
