PSY 323 Lecture 3: CHAPTER 3 Questions
Document Summary
Automatic processing is when one encounters a stimulus that comes in contact with the with memory. Meaning without thinking our brain resorts to our memory to respond to the environment without your awareness. For example, when one smells fresh cut apples, they may instantly think about their grandma"s sweet apple pie. It"s what they"ve always smelt growing up that it is an instinct and an act of automatic thinking. Two major types of automatic processing that people use are eating and general thinking. We think about what groceries we need, or what we should eat for supper late. Our biological trigger inside our body sends a message to our brain telling us we are hungry and causing our stomach to growl. Schemas deal primarily with how one perceives the environment and those around them. It deals with the organization of experiences one has within the social world that involves influences from its surroundings.
