Document Summary
Deciding how to meet obligations and act responsibly: Better quality of ethical problem solving would mean considering a broader range of issues and making more use of universal values. The ethics problem-solving model focuses on the judgement component, but it depends on other components and helps to reinforce them. It may appear to be more important to act than to analyze, but this is a false distinction. Furthermore, broad-ranging ethical judgement may also contribute to heightened awareness and the capacity to see the ethical implications in a wider array of situations. Analysis can then improve the depth of judgement. Analysis supports taking an action that has risk. The conclusion that i must take this action for these reasons combines character and judgement. The model is a variant of the rational model of decision making. Such models promote problem solving based on comprehensive information. This requires considerable information and people do not commonly use such an orderly decision making process.
