All the fish in the lake: sample, a part of the population, doesn"t need to be very large, large is relative to the size of the population, must be representative of the population. Simple random sample: many variables can affect results, srs seeks to try and get rid of the biases due to these variables, methods, random numbers chart, ex. 97|42|49|07|65|01|63|43|73|28: use every other group of numbers, once all numbers are gone through you are done, this is called sampling without replacement. Extra source: prompted the class to visit wikipedia of sampling. Variables: can equate to a response of a question, ex. Age, gpa, etc: quantitative variable, when a variable is a number, discrete numbers, when there are no numbers in between values, usually is a count, ex.
