Document Summary
Most people have a poor understanding of the processes of evolution. Many have a poor understanding of scientific method. Some argue that science and religious beliefs must be mutually exclusive. It is a s(cid:272)ie(cid:374)tifi(cid:272) (cid:272)o(cid:374)stru(cid:272)t for u(cid:374)dersta(cid:374)di(cid:374)g the (cid:373)e(cid:272)ha(cid:374)is(cid:373)s of change over time. Science and religion can coexist and are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Cladistics classification- organisms characterized by shared derived characteristics (homology) that can be traced to their most common recent ancestor. Prehensile hands and feet (with opposable thumbs and big toes) Nails instead of claws: sensitive tactile pads and fingerprints. Flexible hip and shoulder joints (retention of clavicles) Can be traced back at least 65 million years ago. Omomyidae- possible ancestor of haplorrhines (specifically tarsiiformes) Lemurs, galagos, pottos, lorises, aye-ayes (cid:862)i(cid:374)(cid:449)ard tur(cid:374)ed or (cid:272)urly (cid:374)osed(cid:863) Rhinarium- wet nose, attached to their gums. Three infraorders: tarsiiformes (tarsiers) platyrrhini (new world anthropoind) and catarrihini (old word anthropoids) Used to be considered strepsirrhine due to appearance.
