Document Summary

Determining based on size, shape, arrangements via staining. Observe colonies shape, size, color o: aureus gold (au) Biochemical tests for growth, if they produce gas or acid, and if they use sugars o o o o. Example for gas or acid production ! upside down durham tube. Important tests to differentiate different organisms as unknowns. Keep in mind make sure you run all tests at optimum temperature, most organisms will be incubated at 37 degrees celsius (mesophiles grow best in your body), incubated time ~ 48 hours, use aseptic technique. Catalase test presence or absence of enzyme catalase. Take a culture (growing in tube/plate), tsa agar, inoculate and incubate; take from it on a sterile wooden stick/pre-sterilized plastic loops (avoid metal), transfer to a clean slide, add hydrogen peroxide. Catalase = enzyme that will break down hydrogen peroxide; present will have vigorous bubbling.
