Hated democracy because of mob rule- democracy brings way for the tyranny of majority. Poor may vote for things that benefit them (minimum wage laws) which go around natural law. Government should be concerned with law, order, and defense. Keep orderly and safe at home and abroad. Old mill- sees unregulated capitalism as monopolies & cartels control prices which messes with natural law. Hated cartels & monopolies- just as controlling as overbearing government. Go(cid:448)er(cid:374)(cid:373)e(cid:374)t (cid:374)eeds to keep thi(cid:374)gs fair so o(cid:374)e group of fir(cid:373) do(cid:374)"t (cid:272)o(cid:374)trol e(cid:448)er(cid:455)thi(cid:374)g. 18th & 19th c. liberals support imperialism- expanding into africa, india, etc. Economics-raw materials were expensive, colonies in these places drops the prices of the goods (benefits the middle class) 20th c. - liberals support labor unions & wage laws. A lack of regulation was the primary source of suffering.
