Everything towards the bottom is society"s mode of production or society"s base. Marx was a materialist, believed everything in society"s mode of production determined everything in society"s super structure. Means of production are raw materials such as wood, steel, coal, land, water. tools and machines are means of prod. as well. Relations of production are made up of social classes. Dominant class has power, subordinate class doesn"t. Believed society was shaped by con ict between different economic groups slide 2. In capitalist societies there are 2 major classes which are the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. Bourgeoise : ownership and control for means of production. According to marx the government only serves the interest of the capitalist class. The ideas of the ruling class are in every epoch the ruling ideas, i. e. the class which is the ruling material force of society, is at the same time its ruling intellectual force.
