History is the study of the past, speci cally how it relates to people. History as a social science: more idiographic, which means they"re more interested in speci cs of a speci c case. Sociologists on the other hand tend to be more nomothetic, which means they"re more interested in general laws. Old people have different needs and interests than young people. Us get together, likely to discuss retirement; young people not so much. Only women have babies, only a women of a certain age can have babies ( Evaluations of what is desirable are often expresses as cultural values- widely shared feelings about what is important to a society"s identity or well-being. The text will spend a lot of time on each society"s values. Often what is different between societies is not values themselves, but relative priority of speci c values and how values are expressed in the society.
