Differential rotation means different sections rotate at different speeds (or periods). The great red spot is a gigantic hurricane. Jovian planets are primarily made of hydrogen and helium gas. (b) the upper atmospheres of the jovian planets are extremely cold. Jovian planets emit more energy than they receive from the sun. The insides of the jovian planets are still hot from their formation, but that energy dissipates by the time it reaches the upper atmospheres. Sunlight is too faint to warm the upper atmospheres. Ring particles should spread apart (either falling into the planet or escaping to space). Shepherd moons keep the ring particles in stable orbits: what are rings typically made of? (hint: saturn"s rings are the exception) It is more common for ring particles to be made of rock and dust. To which planets do they belong? (note that by jovian moons, we mean any moons orbiting any of the jovian planets)
