Nature vs. nurture: causes of gender differences: nature (what is a natural difference) Male children more vulnerable before/at birth, male/female ratio; more genetic disorders (hemophilia) Difference in sense of small, taste, vision, and hearing: nurture (what is learned difference) Appears that most behavior is a combination of both nature and nurture often triggers nature, or enhances it: environment effects biology: A chemical imbalance that causes depression can be induced by being the victim of domestic violence: biology affects environment: Children as young as 9 months old have gender preferences for toys, especially boys. This is before they are aware enough of their own gender and thus what they should be interested in via gender socialization.
