You"ll achieve a lot of savings if you actively manage the amount of electricity you use in your apartment or house. If you want to save money on your energy bill, keep this in mind: Replace all the light bulbs with compact fluorescent lightbulbs: these last 10x longer and save you 50% or more on lighting costs. Turn off your lights and electronics, including computer, when you"re not using it: this saves you thousands of dollars. Raising your thermostat by one degree in the summer decreases your energy use by 3- 4%: this is the same for decreasing your heating temp in the winter. Using ceiling fans instead of air conditioner should be used when possible. Wash all your clothes in cold water. It"s more expensive to wash your clothes in hot water. Buying a new washer, or when buying one, buy a front-loading washer instead of top- loading one.
