Hist 150- ww1 (the great war) both sides began building trenches, they had wire on the outside of them had underground dugouts throughout the trenches for men to take shelter in. No mans land- the area between the two opposing sides, where nothing was. Germans begin to use chemical weapons, gas originally, british troops would wear socks dipped in urine to block out gas then they finally got gas masks. The battle of the somme- sir douglas haig, didn"t care just wanted to keep pushing his soldiers only allowed the british to increase the miles of their lines had huge casualties on both sides. Robert graves, excited to go to war at first was wounded during an artillery attack endless exposure to death, war, and just awful things, corpses. German govt creates a ration system- in order to deal with food shortages. Stinging nettles - used for clothing or thread.
