Consider the journalists part of the white house press corps. More specifically, the ones during the nixon presidency. These people get to travel with the president whenever he goes on assignments somewhere in the country, white house, or internationally. Even though these journalists are in charge of following the president 24/7, we have to rely on two prodigy journalists not a part of this group. They started following nixon and hit the phones to talk to sources and as a result of their work, they broke the watergate story, and forced nixon to resign. The question is, why were these two journalists able to accomplish this, while the ones following nixon were not able to do this. In fact, when woodward and bernstein were gathering all this information to write the. Watergate stories their own white house colleagues didn"t think watergate was true.
