The first amendment includes freedom of press and freedom of speech and the fourth. But, sometimes those aren"t enough to protect journalists when they don"t want to talk about their sources or information. This leads us to get into shield laws. There is no federal shield law, but there are shield laws in most states. The states that have them are similar, but different. When you are reporting in certain states, you need to make sure to check them out. Privacy protection act protects documents and the work product, that"s another protection some journalists have.
