5 views3 pages

Document Summary

This is important because not everyone is sophisticated enough to understand how news works and that you are to do a job and aren"t a friend or therapist when doing it. Journalists need to follow the code of ethics when telling the story and when interacting with the public/community they report for/on. There could be long lasting consequences for not following this code of ethics. Things to consider when interviewing victims of trauma: Confidentiality: you should advice your interviewee not to mention the location of people, organizations, or anything else that could be used to identify them in a story that they are being interviewed for. Informed consent is needed: have an understanding about how to identify the victim in pictures and writing. Don"t fall into the routine of giving the victim increased control over the process of the story: let the victim dictate the interview setting. Try to approach victims delicately and stay firm on certain facts.
