Listen to different parts at different times (voices, instruments) Be able to relate what you hear to what has happened before. Tonic- (key of c the first key is c) the first degree of scale. Tone color= how you can tell the difference between instruments like a baritone and a trumpet- the tonal characteristics of a particular instrument or voice. Sharpen- your awareness of different instruments and their separate tonal characteristics. Gain a better understanding of the composer"s expressive purpose in using any instruments or combo of instruments (why did they choose all brass?) Ternary- 3 part form a-b-a (can hear the a section again which makes it easier to identify) Monophonic- one line of music (one sound unoccupied)
