Theme 1: story telling- journalism history is a long series of technological advances making information easier to keep and spread. Theme 2: freedom- journalism history is the back and forth struggle between those seeking greater freedom of expression and access to information and those desiring to limit or control it. (freedom wins in the long run). Theme 4: you- long line of people telling true stories good or bad. Journalism- news that is placed in a technical, professional and moral framework. Emotion- not does the article make you feel something : seeing quotes from the victims that gives you emotions not by topics. Immediacy- timely, before you can answer must know publication cycle, mandatory. Novelty- dog bites man = not news man bites dog = news. Impact- story makes someone change mind, or go about making a difference, feelings are not an impact. Spend 90% of time chasing a story, and 10% writing it.
