Historical context/nostalgia: sometimes context is kind of a fancier way of talking about background. that"s a part of it, to be sure. Past might have been different: indeed, one problem with our digital culture is that it sort of loses any focus on context. "60 or were an attempt to kind of carve out different attitudes about gender in a fairly conservative, traditional period: so lots of that stuff is certainly problematic in a 2019 #metoo world. But it"s not a matter of applying different standards, exactly. It"s more a matter of looking at one context (the past) through the lens of another context (the present). But it"s incomplete and also unfair from an objective standpoint: also, understanding context helps you understand what things are likely to be changeable/fixable and what things aren"t. Nostalgia, after all, is kind of purposefully recycling the past for any number of reasons.
