The picture is of the man on 9/11 falling very casually and seems completely comfortable arrowing down to the ground. The others who jumped, shoes were flying, some shirtless, it looked horrific. Everything to the left is the north tower, everything to the right is the south. Some people who look at the pictures see stoicism, willpower, a portrait of resignation. He is jumping 15 seconds past 9:41, accelerating at a rate of 32 feet/second. Soon he"ll be travelling 150 miles per hour upside down. In the photo he is frozen, his life outside the frame, he keeps dropping until he disappears. The photographer is no stranger to history, he knows it is something that happens later. In the actual moment history is made, it is usually made in terror and confusion, and so it is up to people like him paid witnesses to have the presence of mind to attend to its manufacture.
