NEWS 409 Lecture Notes - Lecture 51: Death Of Alan Kurdi, Bodrum, Ambivalence

Document Summary

Personally, i have mixed feelings about news organizations publishing graphic video and images. I believe that in order to justify the image posted, the image has to contain material that either tells the story better than words can, or change history in some way/benefit society in some way. While this might seem vague, i think when dealing with extremely graphic or gory pictures, one should be more hesitant to post. However, i feel as though video, if posted containing a warning that the images you are about to view are graphic, it is easier to get away with posting. Things like death and gore are hard things to watch or see. Before publishing these kinds of images, i think the organization should take into account what the image is depicting, if the person depicted is completely visible and what consequences could come from posting something graphic.
