Psychology: science of behavior & mental processes. Psychologist: person who holds three college degrees (b. a. , m. a. , & ph. d. ) Additional year(s) of training in a specialized area of research. Have a m. d. with a two year internship in psychiatry. Patients usually have physical & mental problems. Have little training in emotional disturbances/human behavior. Practice psychoanalysis (study of unconscious motives & dreams) 4 years college, 4 years medical school, 4 years studying psychoanalysis. All three professions (psychologist, psychiatrists, psychoanalysts) work side-by-side. & help each other in hospitals & mental health settings. Most people initially seek therapy from psychiatrists. Have extensive training in treatment & research in mental problems. Don"t often take drug-orientated, bio-medical view with treatments of disorders. Clinical psychologists: psychologists that work with people who have mental disturbances. Specialization areas can be broken down into 2 major subareas: Deal with patients with psychological disturbances in private-practice/hospital settings. Work in industry, hospital, mental health, & university settings.
