Organizational cultures aren"t neutral in their orientation on ethics. This is true even when they aren"t openly trying to achieve their ethical goals. Over time, ethical culture develops, and turns into the shared concept of behavior that is right and wrong at work. The ethical culture shows the organization"s true values and shapes the organizational members" ethical decision making process. Employees and managers can talk about ethical problems and are reinforced for behaving ethically. Ethical climate theory (ect) and the ethical climate index (eci) categorize and measure the ethical work context and environment"s shared perceptions that are reflected in the policies, procedures, and practices in an organization. These five off the nine identified ect climate categories are seen most in organizations: In relationship to their organizations, these explain the mindset and values of managers and employees. In an instrumental ethical climate, managers can frame the way they make decisions around the assumption that people are motivated by their own self-interest.
