“Best Practices” in Special Education (pgs. 62-63) have been identified as those
strategies and activities most likely to be effective in working with students. Choose
3 of the instructional components listed on page 62-63 and give some examples of
what an activity might look like in your classroom using that strategy/activity.
Component: Examples:
1. Technology Students may be allowed to use laptops, iPads, Braille
Notes / Braille Senses, and other devices as needed. My
classroom will include devices such as audio readers and
make use of other technologies, including videos, websites
and educational apps, etc. in order to engage students in
ways that are accessible to them.
2. Sequencing Information will be presented in a sequence that makes
sense. For example, if teaching history I would go in a
chronological order, bringing back past events to explain

needed, or audio versions of texts.
Other ways that I could augment instruction would be
providing additional 1:1 support to students as needed,
providing lectures notes or summaries of the texts we use.
Additionally, I may change the format of tests in order to
support student needs.
In addition, answer the following questions (pgs. 66-68):
1. What is Direct Instruction? What are some benefits? Disadvantages?
