Houses of eternity (and houses of the gods) In predynastic egypt there is a real excitement about the burial cult. There is a degree to which you give the dead object of beautiful quality and quantity. Emphasis on feeding the dead, and making them look and smell good. Get more and more elaborate as time goes on. Around the reign of narmer (one of the three collosi of min found at coptos, originally 4 m. high) These earliest burials were buried in hot sand, which means that the flesh of the people are amazingly preserved (can find tattoos and hairstyles) Genesis of this notion that the soul should be able to come to rest in the body. As people become richer and richer and richer, the harder you strive for this goal, the more the goal recedes. Late predynastic, they start building chambers to protect the body from the elements.
