Buchloh objects to the idea that the neo avante garde is simply an imitation or copy of the first and therefore is less valid. Buchloh says that a freudian interpretation for the cause of imitation is a reflection of repression as opposed to a notion of original and copy. Modernism is seen as a compliment to development in industrialization and capitalism and a creative expressionism of that: modernism is concerned with achieving art aesthetics.
