PHIL V 2100y Lecture 6: Greene
Document Summary
Literature as creation of author and recreation of that work by the reader; both author and reader are necessary; book only comes to life in having been written and then being read; reader gives book meaning. Book is manifestation of the writer, brought forth in imagination. Reader connects to lived experience of writer through her own lived experience; so writer can never fully control what the story is for any given reader; our lived experiences cause us to interpret what we read differently. Subject matter only comes to life when it"s being learned. Praxis occurs when student and subject matter interact. Learner gets out of the world what she puts into it; what you get out of the world is based on how present you are in your experiences. Curriculum=map to guide learner; but map does not stand on its own; person who uses map has his own consciousness + experience; we must understand where this person is coming from.
