Document Summary

Tissues and their functions integrate to form organs. : structure such as the stomach, lungs, and livers composed of several different tissues grouped. Systems are organs working together: composed of organs working together. An organism can be defined at various levels of biological organization. At the cellular level, vertebrates contain between 50 and several hundred different kinds of cells, depending on how finely you differentiate cell types. These diverse cells are traditionally grouped into 4 tissue types, based on structure and function: epithelial, connective, muscular, and nervous tissues. Simple: refers to the tissue occurring in one layer. Pseudostratified: refers to a single layer of cells that appear stratified because the nuclei appear in different positions within the columnar cells. Epithelial tissues line the gut, and other cavities, and line the coelomic cavity. : tightly packed cells that protects the body. Protect underlying tissues from dehydration and mechanical damage. Provide a selectively permeable barrier that facilitates on impedes passage of material.
