God owes nothing to the devil, much less a ransom: satisfaction theory: jesus satisfies the obligation for justice and order of human history, moral influence theory: jesus is the prime example of love. His love and willingness to love and die exemplifies the love we should adopt in our lives and how it will bring us closer to god. Proslogion should be read as a devotional work: anselm"s satisfaction theory of the atonement, god created humanity in a state of original righteousness, that state of eternal blessedness is contingent upon human obedience to god. Through sin, humanity is unable to achieve this necessary obedience: god"s purposes cannot be frustrated, so must be some means by which the situation can remedied.
