Feminism has challenged dominant forms of xianity with accusations that it treats women as 2nd class humans in 1)roles and 2)how women thought to represent imago dei. Patriarchy: network of social systems that privilege males through authority and power instead of female seen as wrong. Misogyny: hatred of women; seen as more sinful, impure, volatile. Androcentrism: focus on the male gender as being descriptive for humanity as a whole. Post-xian feminists argue that women should leave/reject this oppressive religion: Mary daly argued that xianity is incapable of being salvaged. Carol christ argued that women should recover ancient goddess religions/invent new ones. Feminists within xianity have argued for change from within. Feminists have challenged traditional church policies and practices that prohibit women"s ordination and participation. Feminists church historians uncover the legacies of women who exercised significant leadership roles throughout xian history.
