Darker face with tufts of hair on the side. A little bit more bipedal than chimps, esp, when foraging or carrying babies. Lots of sexual interaction between all bonobos, not that violent. Constant sexual activity obscures the paternity of children. Females are only sexually receptive during estrus (when fertile) Many behaviors are tied to reproduction; they are reproductive strategies. Primates are k-selected (large body size, long life expectation, few offspring with more investment) Females spend a lot of their times pregnant, lactating, or rearing offspring. Baboons, chimps, and bonobos all have estrus swelling. They also all have multi-male groups with male cooperation. Only chimps have significant estrus swelling and large male sex organs. Estrus swelling and sperm competition appear to correlate with male coalition behavior.
