To reach reasonable attitude separate biological/physiological aspects from social/economic aspects of problem. Mixing of races w/ immigration and slave trade. Race is a group of people with certain bodily characteristics in common. Stereotypes of appearance formed about different races (ex. diff europeans) Not right to speak of traits that are hereditary in a racial type as a whole b/c they occur in other races too. Hereditary traits should be shared by the whole population so that it is set off against others. Family lines in single population differ greatly among themselves. The differences b/w family lines in each larger area are greater than the difference b/w the populations as a whole. Intermingling has played important part in history of modern populations. Spain"s greatness followed period of greatest race mixture; ended with end of immigration and stabilization of population.
