Argument: capitalism does much more than organize economics, it structures identities, intimate relationships, and experiences: gender, sex (engels, race (dubois, boas, sacks) Dubois: the effects of racism are real, enduring, persistent, and violent: the invention of paternity made necessary by the invention of private property, engels. Monogamy was the first form of the family based not on natural but on economic conditions. Private property paternity: control of resources by men, subjugation of women. The overthrow of mother right was the world-historic defeat of the female sex . Women must be monogamous, but men do not have to. The husband of the mother will always be considered the father of the child, even if they are not (they can be biological fathers of other children outside of marriage and not be held accountable for them). He will still have the title over the household with the children that may or may not be his own.
